The long-awaited Standard Chartered Arts in the Park – Night Parade will return to Lee Gardens Area in Causeway Bay on the evening of 7 February, bringing light and warmth to the community in the new year.
A spectacular parade of lights for a brand-new nighttime art experience
The 25th edition of Standard Chartered Arts in the Park – Hong Kong’s largest outdoor youth arts festival – takes inspiration from The Adventures of Pinocchio by Italian author Carlo Collodi and sees the return of the Night Parade with richer artistic elements that bring audiences a visual and sensorial art adventure. Held at 8pm to 9:30pm on Saturday, 7 February, the parade will proceed from Lee Garden One Main Entrance, along Yun Ping Road, Pak Sha Road, Lee Garden Road and Kai Chiu Road to Hysan Place and back.
Celebrating the new year, the Night Parade transforms Lee Gardens Area in Causeway Bay into a dazzling stage with 5 handcrafted glowing giant puppets and 16 extravagant carnival costumes featuring Pinocchio, Geppetto, the Sly Fox and the Terrible Dogfish – adding colour and sparkle to the city streets with a total of 21 artworks created by local artists. Visitors can also enjoy shimmering dance performances, live music and juggling shows – all part of an unforgettable celebration of light and creativity.
Showcasing 100% Hong Kong craftsmanship
The Night Parade was launched in 2013. In the early years it was held in collaboration with renowned international puppet masters Paul McLaren and Sharon George, and acclaimed UK-based art group The Lantern Company, who helped to promote the art of giant puppet-making and costume-making in Hong Kong. This year, all the fabulous parade puppets and costumes on display at Standard Chartered Arts in the Park – Night Parade are handcrafted by local Hong Kong artists.
Pre-parade activities from afternoon to evening
Before the Night Parade, a range of exciting activities will take place as part of the festivities, bringing a day-to-night artistic atmosphere to the community. On the day of the parade, free activities including face painting experiences, jumping puppet-making workshops and photo sessions with parade performers, invite participants into the world of Pinocchio. These activities will run from 3pm to 6pm at Lee Garden One Main Entrance. Free admission, spaces are limited and offered on a first come, first served basis.
To carry on the artistic vibe after the Night Parade, the giant puppets of Pinocchio and the Blue Fairy will be on display at G/F Office Lobby, Lee Garden One, from 12 February to 15 March. Visitors are welcome to take a close look and appreciate the remarkable craftsmanship of local artists.
Standard Chartered Arts in the Park is organised by Hong Kong Youth Arts Foundation (HKYAF), sponsored by Standard Chartered Community Foundation and powered by Standard Chartered Bank (Hong Kong) Limited, with support from the Hong Kong Tourism Board and the Wan Chai District Office. Hysan Development Company Limited is the partnering sponsor for the Night Parade.
